I now have 2 crankshafts and this is the question, above the main bearings there’s a cup as part of the casting which contains a “petroil”? hole that links to between the two brass/bronze driveside bearings, also aligning with a drilling in the mainshaft, further along the  shaft is another drilling that aligns with a “feed”to the clutch thrust bearing, the mainshaft is centre drilled and abuts the main drive shaft (the one with the tongue) which is also centre drilled with a feed hole to the bush in the end of the pressed clutch/transmission brake housing, the orignal crank centre is clear and would allow the passage of petroil as I have explained, however the replacement crank appears to be plugged so it could not lubricate beyond the mainshaft, or have I completely missed the point. I have visited Smiths Auto and he was very helpful. I am not familiar with the Wilfred saga Andy

    Thank you George

Had an interesting hour @ Smiths Autocycles, but this has now created more questions are there any drawings available of the crank and clutch mainshaft, I wish to clarify the feed arrangements for petroil circulation to acertain if the drillings are correct. Andy

    Thanks Gents

Sorry for the slow response I used to receive emails when someone replied to a post but this facility seems to have stopped, Ian Parsons responded with the available history, Dave you are correct a 1924 596cc 2 speeder was its original host. My thinking was that if it was a long stroke then Santa may have to contact Roger Moss. Best wishes Andy

I have measured a 7 inch Webb hub and it is 3&7/8ths from the centre of the brake plate to the spoke flange no bearing cover, what forks have you got? If you measure the gap you could perhaps find a set of replacement blades I think Webb hubs are difficult to get and very expensive.

I must admit I was a more frequent visitor to the previous format And I agree that the LE forum is an example or how a forum should function ( I currently have 3 LE’S ) I think the original format of the LE site was created by a IT student but has gone through updates and changes over the years. The douglas one is pretty good also Andy

If we want to piggyback on to the Velocette event I would suggest we make contact sooner rather than later, I don’t know how much crossover there is with SOC/VOC/NI members. Roger Franklin is the chairman ( thoroughly nice bloke)

Just to put it in to perspective try and have something of this quality designed and manufactured, I have one and it is well made and would be a challange to reverse engineer, I am just thankful there are people like Eddie prepared to help us keep the wheels rolling. 😀
