I drove to South Liverpool yesterday, where, amongst other things, visited Jane Baxter, who was in the company of son Barrie. to  collect the last 2 copies of Jim Baxter’s autobiography.

I’ve met Barrie a few times before when he had his car racing hats on and was pleased to hear him re-affirm his intention of retaining  his Dad’s remaining motorcycles, hoping to campaign the 1929 TT Replica, which will be a very welcome bit of flag flying for Scotts.

I will try to attach a photo  of President Jim & Jane at Abbotsholme and Jim tweaking the TT Rep in his workshop in May 1999.

There are only 5 survivors out of maybe 120 that were made. I rescued number 5 survivor from a field in Derbyshire in a badly corroded condition in June 1996. With the help of my father we restored it to a “rolling chassis”, but his death took the wind out of my sails and I passed the project on to a fellow VSCC man who was very enthusiastic to complete the job. I asked for first refusal if he ever sold it, but passed this option on to a fellow SOC man, who is considering his position, now that the VSCC man has died.

I am happy for you to email me, but circumstances mean that I am unlikely to reply until April.

    FAULTY DECEMBER YOWL

Yowl finally arrived today – is that the price for having a surname late in the alphabet?
Sadly it has the same omissions and duplications noted by Ted Robinson – will it become a “collectors’ item”?

On the good news front, my membership renewal form arrived yesterday!

    Regards
    David.

I also have a copy of Edwin’s DVD in which I find the photo quality to be acceptable. Better quality would be good but I think Brian is correct in feeling that uptake would probably be poor, and not justify the cost. Maybe test the temperature of the water by having Edwin’s DVD copied for a few quid?

I will email Dave shortly on other matters.

    Further to my posting above

Graham Gotts (VMCC) has confirmed Martin Thompson’s fears that the extremely short distance [c300 metres] from the undertakers Oxleys to the crematorium in Crewe makes a motorcycle escort impractical, so the idea has been dropped.

As well as tool boxes, John Rose on john.rose123@btinternet.com makes neat prop stands. He brought one to our last NW Meeting.

John is well known, particularly in the north west. He’s won awards nationally for his well used 1938 Flyer, which he was on at our Machine Night last week.
On file I have “Fabricates toolboxes, oil tanks, chain/splash guards, etc. john.rose123@btinternet.com

    Hello Martin,
I know of one machine with such a crankcase which years ago was in the ownership of the late Frank Serjeant and was thought to have been used as a TT practice bike before WW 1, around 1911 or so. It has subsequently been fully restored and exhibited at a Stanford Hall Gathering. I think that many would have walked past it without noticing the unusual crankcase. I will look out photos when I have more time.

Thank you for your good wishes Chris – Happy New Year to you.
Regarding selling Scott spares, I would only consider using the forum if the facility was in the Members’ Area. There are too many wheeler dealers out there who would be keen to buy at “club prices” for selling on.
As for spares wanted, I see no problem in putting the request on the General Area, as I know you have done; it’s then up to you to decide who you want to buy from.

The lady who spoke to you Nick was indeed correct in saying that Frank Varey went on to manage a race track – he was Managing Director of Sheffield Speedway at Owlerton in the 1960’s when I was an enthusiastic follower (with my pals) of the Sheffield Speedway Tigers. He was frequently present at the pits while the bikes were being warmed up and always spoke to us, very keen to answer any of our questions. He wrote interesting club and league updates for the Thursday race night programmes titled “Hello Folks – Frank Varey Calling” – I still have some of the programmes!

    Graham,
As I do not know how freely he distributes his contact details, I have sent you an email, which is blind copied to him, hoping that I have the correct Philip Wheeler.
Trust that you & your dad Hugh are in good form.

    Kevin,
I look forward to the Gathering returning to Abbotsholme in 2017. Would alternate years between Abbotsholme & Shuttleworth/Old Warden be a popular idea? What was the general feeling about Shuttleworth 2016? I have had feedback from very few attendees.
