Hi Mark, keep going, we have all thought the same, don’t be disheartened, when you look back you will enjoy every ride. Doug
Neil, if you have a look in Scott Technicalities there is an article on how to set up the gear lever – that may be a starting point. I would be tempted to whip off the clutch and check it, something is not quite right. It may also contribute to the 3rd gear issue. Violent should not be leaking around the plugs. I think there is plenty of info + much wiser folks than myself that may have a better idea. There is a lot in technicalities and also the back issues of Yowel. I’m in Dublin, so wanted to take the opportunity to say hi, Doug
I’m new to all this but love the SOC. Was a member of VMCC and the assertion that the mag is very popular….it is full of section reports of dates and meetings, nothing substantial, a waste of good trees. As for the website, social media etc etc brings nothing as it the same. Disorganised and scattered, let them run events if that is what they are good at. The admin burden, accounts, etc is a burden, to those volunteers. I propose a counter proposal, that the vmcc joins the SOC, and acts as an admin org, and there is less admin burden on members, and more riding, lean is mean…take the accounts package, insurance and anything else that benefits Scott owners, and leave the rest behind. 100% with you Ian
I’m no expert on starting but have suffered many issues. The advice I was given was to drain the crankcases, fresh petrol, check for leaks on the transfer ports and doors etc. I worked through these one by one, and also cylinder sealing and rings. Anyway, my 2 pennies worth is to do exactly what you are thinking. Remove the engine and check everything, otherwise you might drive yourself around the twist.
Mark, I don’t have a 2 speed but keep going with the Scott, don’t loose heart, well worth it.
Hi, only bit of advice I have is make sure that there no lip on the sprocket taper and that it is sitting down on the magneto taper, and that the nut is pressing against the sprocket and not the magneto shaft. As prescribed, only a small nip up is required. I’ve been tempted to start to put a dab of paint on things like this so it is obvious if it moves….
Hi you can get cycle thread studying nuts bolts etc from D. Middleton & Son Stainless Steel. Really good quality best I’ve seen.
Any other sources?
Ok thanks will do
Thanks folks, have one organised
