Dear wilfried these look nothing like scott pistons more like Mercury outboard pistons to me, good luck, Alan Noakes.

Roger, so glad to know that Rob Collet is alive and well and still interested in unorthodox engines, you forgot to mention his supercharged two stroke four stroke Triumph twin that he built a while ago. Rob Collet was also a serious vintage motor cycle racer from the fifties through to the seventies,a Scott owner too, he bought a 47 Flyer from my brother to travel to Luton where he worked, along with this Flyer was the bones of a vintage Scott which probably formed the basis of the Scott Norton which Rob raced so succesfully. Please give him my regards the next time you see him. Alan Noakes.

Hi Eric, one of the best things you can do to a scott is fit a monobloc carb, the beauty of this type of carburettor compared to a concentric is that it can be tilted to the scott downdraught whereas the concentric has a limited angle and needs a curved manifold, I ran my birmingham on the following settings, 1&3 sixteenths bore 389 monobloc, D needle 105 needle jet,3slide, 340main jet, this might not suit your engine as I had other tuning mods, I also believe in not running a two stroke too weak especially a Scott which suffers from poor piston lubrication, good luck. Jim although I can`t help with your dowty`s I can sell you a pair of Birmingham fork legs, which should be a direct replacement for them, if you are interested please e-mail me. Alan Noakes.

I can assure everyone that this engine was never made by scott, or even Matt Holder who made a scott like marine engine called a Bermuda I believe. Being the owner of a Hogan RCA engined DOT I can recognise this engine as a developement of my air cooled unit, Peter Hogan and the RCA company went on to produce the Dolphin yacht engine which this engine is, the company is still in business situated in Bodmin. PS back in the 1960s Peter Hogan took the hydroplane championship 2 years running with one of these engines it developed 45 BHP at 9000RPM.

Obviously the person who did all the work on this machine is not the same person who wrote the description, I particularly licked the reference to the owner being a prisoner of war! really tugged at ones heart strings don`t you think, made it sound so real, what puzzles me though is if all these special parts were missing when this bike was found, how did the new owner know the machine ever had them in the first place? Also the fact that the bike has a Birmingham engine and Rocket Gold star front hub doesn`t help the history either, obviously the fictitious TT rider must have had his right leg severely injured as the foot change gearbox has been replaced by a hand change unit. What really pleases me though is that there are people out there willing to bid this mutch money for a scott bitsa, we can all retire early. Good Scotting, ALAN NOAKES.

Roger hi. don`t know if this suggestion is possible or practical, in the building and DIY market nowadays there seems to be a lot of tools with built in lasers, in fact I saw a steel tape measure the other day with built in laser, I`m sure this narrow beam of light could be shon accross both sprockets and show up any missalignment. Roger, sorry for not explaining my previous question, it had nothing to do with how you drive your magneto, in fact I applaud any innovation, my question was asked because somewhere along the line your request for a larger gearbox sprocket became overtaken by the possibility of fitting a larger engine sprocket which would move a standard clutch drum into a different position at every turn along with your mag drive. Please keep up the good work. Alan Noakes.

Dear Roger surely if you drive your mag from the clutch drum your timing will never be right? Alan Noakes.
