Hi Frank
Sorry I haven’t got one, but would be interested to see the drawing. How about posting it on the web?

Hi Steve and Roger
Great first email newsletter.
Hope you can keep it going with plenty of support.

Hi Erik
The oil pump or drippers supply oil to the main bearings and glands. As these bearings and glands are effectively outside of the crankcase chambers, they would not be lubricated by a petroil mixture.

Hi Daniel
I think Planet Motorcycles in Croydon has a 49 Scott for sale. From memory, I think it was about £3500.

The information that you gave to Jim is for the final chain. The primary chain size is 1/2″ x .305″ x 68 or 69 links.

Well done Gill – superb Web site!

Hi Roger
Quite simple really. Just place the rubbers in the hub so that the bottom edges of each pair of rubbers are propped up against each other so as to form a V where the vanes on the sprocket fit. Align the vanes and push together. Thats it!
You can always apply a little tyre lubricant as used at your local tyre fitters if you want to make it a bit easier.

I can do that for you if you are prepared to wait a couple of days or so.

I think you need to specify which year/edition that will be reprinted – the early ones(mid twenties or thereabouts) differ considerably from the 30s, 40s and fifties editions, which also have slight variations in content.

Thankyou for your kind advice, on both types of engine – human and Scott!
I was about to email you on the tecnique that you used for fitting the water-jacket on blind heads, but you’ve just done that. Many thanks for your time and trouble.

Hi Roger
Thanks for the response to my query. Sorry for the delay in thanking you but I’ve been in hospital until today with a ticker thats been over-reving! I’ll be putting the block back together as soon as I’m allowed back in the garage.

There is a lot of discussion about putting the Book of the Scott on CD rom. I hope those concerned realise that the contents of the Book of the Scott varied considerably over the years, especially the early editions. The later editions didn’t vary quite so much, usually just a change of pictures to reflect the current Scott being produced for that year or maybe the addition of coil ignition in 1949 etc.
Therefore, putting just one edition of the book on the CD would not suit the needs of everybody.
I do have a reasonable collection of the “Book of the Scott” in the library
(1912 -1950) but not every year!, which can be made available for scanning when the time comes.

Just for information, Yowl was first issued in August 1958. I haven’t got around to counting the number of issues to date as during some years, the number of Yowls was a little irregular and the issue numbering was wrong on occaision. The number of pages varied considerably (issue 1 for instance only had 16 pages). If neccessary I will do an issue count and if really, really neccessary, a page count as well!
