Hi Bob,
Sounds like you have a pretty good system working already and I would ask the question ‘why change something that ain’t broke?’ It stikes me the only reason to go to a dripper is if the pilgrim drive system is for some reason compromised, changing to a BTH mag for instance. Advantage of dripper = no drive required. Disadvantage of dripper = 1. non return valves in pilgrim removed, if oil tap left on for any length of time wells fill up and overflow, if crank happens to have stopped with gland open case fills, it’s happened to me. 2. thread of adjusters has to be remade very fine to get any degree of fine adjustment. 3. drippers give constant drip all time, pump is at least connected to engine rpm so feed variable, although still drips too fast on overrun as we know, depends if you do any long downhill sections if this will be a problem.
I am sure this is a very debatable subject and will put in April copy of Yowl.

Hi Dave,
I assume the seals you have are similar to the sets from Grove classics that I have recently fitted to several Dowty forks. The double lipped seal fits in a groove machined in the inside of the cowl. The last set I repaired had no cowl at all, it having been removed in order to fit springs which have since been removed. The thin ring does not seem to have a place unless it is for a different version. I have a hone for the tubes if you need it.

Hi Pete,
Sounds like the Kick start boss could have rotated in the case. This is a common problem as the boss is held by a small peg into the soft alloy case cover. Later models have a strap across the top of the case held by the top two cover nuts with a projection fitting into a slot in the boss see pic.

You should check the boss carefully for cracks at the corners of the pawl slot as they often fail here. Graham has new bosses in the spares scheme.
Removal is straight forward just remembering that the large bronze nut that holds the K/start on and has the peg for the spring is left hand thread.

Hi Eric,
Now that the dust an blue smoke have settled a little over the normally tranquil estate of Abbotsholme I am able to post a reply. The weekend did go well, it being necessary to crowbar the last few stragglers off the estate late on the Sunday afternoon.
Rachael had baked one of her special fruit cakes nowing that her dutch friend was normally one of the first to arrive on the Friday and would be in need of building up after such a long ride. I didn’t have the heart to tell her you were standing her up this year, but the cake all went anyway. In deed you would not have been the first this year as Trevor and family were there at 8.30 on the Friday morning.
A good run on the Saturday with no breakdowns that I was aware of, although I did loose my silencer and proceeded to deafen the whole area for the rest of the day.
Hope you can make it next year.
Eddie
The subscription went up to £18 this year with a £1 surcharge for paypal payments so £19 to you my friend.

Graham is coming for the Sunday only. He will bring a selection of spares that will fit in his van so if you require something specific it would be a good idea to let him know by email or phone.
Eddie
I should also mention that there will be refreshments available in the form of an excellent brunch which will run from 11.30 until 1pm. Tickets for this at £3 per head will be on sale at the gate, please purchase as you enter to enable catering staff to ensure an adequate supply of vitals.
On the spares side for the reconstruction of TT8 as a roadgoing bike I am in need of a ratchet and pawl for the K/Start also a spring cover and a rear chain guard. if anyone can help with these items I would be very grateful.
Looking forward to seeing you next weekend

An interesting topic. It is one of those I would like to see run, with full input and then print in Yowl for the benefit of all. So go to it folks.
Putting in my own thoughts. I would agree with erf215 about the pressure and contact area and I would think this is probably the nub of the matter. As I see it with new linings well set up then the pressure on the leading and trailing shoes will be equal, however, as the extra bite taken by the leading shoe causes it to wear more quickly than the trailing shoe there comes a point where the trailing shoe is taking all the pressure from the cam and the cam pivot is hard up against its bush with the leading shoe only biting because of the wedge action. The only way round this would be to have 1. a softer lining on the trailing shoe. 2, Less trailing shoe to wear. 3, A floating cam bush. Have all three of these been tried and is there any knowledge of attempts to quantify the relative merits of any system.

An interesting account that many will be familiar with. I would like to use all, or some, or more if you have it, of this tale in the next Yowl if you have no objection.
Please contact me on the details shown in the mag or post a reply.

I too am astounded by the price this carb went for. I am right behind efr in his sentiments. You can be assured that the SOC committee is working hard to ensure that a good supply of spares are kept on the shelf available to all club members. I would urge any of you that have not yet done so to fill in the survey in last months Yowl so that Graham can ensure the club moves forward before we fall into a bottomless pit where only piles of notes will allow you to climb out.

Hi Erik and All,
I have been keeping the visit to the museum on hold as a wet weather alternative if we have to shorten the days route. The route I have planned is a little longer than the original, therefore time was cut short.
You do not need to bring a sleeping bag, just personal toiletries and a towel. To save you carrying one I can provide if you let me know.

If i knew how to paste images in this forum I would show you a much uglier puller that I just used to pull the dust caps off ’30’s wheel.

Hi Erik,
I have been following your postings with some concern. You have been very supportive of the event from the outset and it would be a big disappointment to me also if you were unable to attend. I am sorry that you are not able to come as a family but pleased that you have decided to attend yourself.
I have been thinking that it may be the case that there are some Scott owners who live along the route that you would take from Hull with whom you may be able to join. I have not looked into this yet, but if anyone has any idea then please share.
At the moment there are 46 paid up members all for the full weekend event. 26 bikes of various ages. It looks to be a true Scott family event with members attending from Italy, Spain, Holland, Sweden and all over the UK many of whom are attending as a couple. I am concerned that for those with no computer connection the message may not be getting out quite as I would like and will be looking into how we can ensure this. I do think that I will have to keep the option of booking open beyond the 1st of Jan as originally stated to allow the message to get out and people to join in with what promises to be a great weekend.
By the way if anyone is thinking of sending any copy for the Feb Yowl please consider this over the break as I have very little so far. I am particularly interested in articles on riding early machines for this edition as I would like to cover the age range of production over the years six editions.
A very happy Christmas to all.

Hello Juan,
The accommodation is very flexible, if numbers are not too great you can each have a single room. I may ask you to share a twin bed room if we are heavily subscribed. You may email me your booking, the form is not necessary as long as I have it in writing. I will let you know how to pay by reply.

A number of people have said they have experienced some difficulty in logging on to the members area so I copy the cost here.
I must apologize for the confusion over the costings for this event. For various reasons the price stated in the Yowl document was higher than I would have wished. After negotiation with the school I have agreed new terms and the revised costings are shown below. To get to these I have withdrawn drinks from the price and I will now run a bar on both evenings. A charge will also need to be made to cover the cost of mini-bus use. I trust this meets with approval. Please contact me if you have any questions or post a general note on this forum. I would hope that those members who know of others in their area who do not have computer access would pass on this information. Please use the booking form as printed in the Yowl and include the £50 deposit as requested unless booking for the meal only when the full amount of £17.50 will secure the place. Again apologies for the confusion and thanks for your support.
For the full weekend B&B Friday & Sat.
Evening meal Friday & Sat plus Brunch on Sunday £105.00
Saturday evening/Sunday Sat. evening meal
B&B Sat. plus Brunch on Sunday £55.00
Saturday evening meal only £17.50
