Unless there is a last minute change of plan the Spares scheme will not be able to be represented at the Gathering.
I would urge all members who are attending to bring along any spares they have that could be of interest to other members.
We have as a committee decided not to advertise the event to all so as to avoid the influx of professional autojumblers who may snap up items before bona fida members get near.
If required I am sure we could set up a table close to the registration tent where small numbers of itemised parts could be displayed. Overseen by sellers in rota to avoid the need to be tied to the boot.
Please let Margaret know on the gate if you have parts for the jumble so as she can direct you to a suitable spot.

On behalf of the committee may I thank you for your good wishes and wish all members a Merry Christmas and good New Year.
If you find an odd few minutes when physical activity is out of the question as a result of too much christmas pud, please give a thought to jotting down a few notes of highs and lows with your Scott over the past year. Or perhaps plans that are being made for renovations this year.

Best wishes from all in the Shermer clan

    Hi Erik,

I think you mean the Sudbury north of Colchester not the one in Derbyshire that Brian refers to.

Hope the weather is better than of late.

Guess who’s using the loftylube system. It looks like some adjustment is required as any one who followed will testify to. On the run, 85 miles in all, many bikes showed no sign of smoke at all bare the odd puff, even after downhill runs, ??

    Sorry Butch,
I’ve just read what I put and realised I was giving you a load of bum information.
The balance tube is soldered across the two centre tubes that go down into the forks. These are a push fit into the underside of the yoke and are held up into it by the top nuts. The yoke can be taken off the top without disturbing it, but I have found it easier to dismantle the forks from the bottom up, as the top can be difficult to get off if it is corroded or has been glued on to stop leaks. With the forks apart you are left with the two centre piston rods joined by a length of soft copper tube!
To dismantle the forks, take off the top nut, undo the pinch bolts and pull down the outer tube as far as it will go then use the special tool to undo the piston from the top of the lower leg down inside the tube. Lower leg and outer tube will then drop out of lower yoke. You can now lift off top yoke complete with centre rods, which can now be separated more easily if desired.
New seals are available from the spares scheme if you are a club member.

    Hi Butch,
The balance tube is silver soldered into the top yoke and is an integral part of it. The top yoke can be lifted off as a unit once the down tubes and internal spindle have been removed. With the pinch bolt in the lower yoke loosened and the top nut removed the fork will come out. If you wish to dismantle the fork you will need a special tool to remove the nut holding the piston down in the tube. email me on my address in Yowl if you need a drawing and pics of the tool.

I have used the Nitromors route to clean out residue, after firstly lifting out great sheets of seal that were peeling from the roof and sides of tank. The Nitromors was added with gravel and hot water to tank and shaken violently. Exterior had been securely taped up with polythene sheet and duct tape and whole process undertaken outside with gloves mask and goggles. Worked a treat very clean inside, but of course would not solve the problem that caused the sealant to be put there in the first place. In my case I was able to resolder the base of tank and fix leak, but this may not always be possible. Any experience of using seals that claim to be 100% Ethanol proof? For those with more dire tank problems I copy some recent correspondence with a Norfolk member re: the advert in VMCC mag.

All soldered type tanks restored. Specialist service, no leaks, no sealants used, tin plated and all damage corrosion repaired. Tank leak tested and ready for painting. No problems with Ethanol fuel additives. Contact Tim Berry on 0752 950 4995/01275 218 952 or email Indian344@gmail.com.

Before it went the tank had severe damage to one side, hidden by filler and paint, which I thought irreparable. So far as I know it didn’t leak due to an epoxy lining applied some twenty-five years ago ….but that lining had come adrift in the past winter, presumably because of ethanol attack, and lumps of it were swimming about in the tank (which, on discovery) I had swiftly drained.

One satisfied customer. Perhaps if members have any knowledge of similar tank repair services that deserve mention in Yowl they would care to post.

Has anyone experience of using the Ethomix product from ‘frost.co.uk’.
Following on from the details published in the last Yowl of Ethanol in petrol. I would like to publish any personal experiences in the next edition. Please post here if you have any.
