Price Productions is still in business and advertise in the Old Bike Mart on the front page. He wiil be able to supply the correct springs. The address is 14,Heron Court, St.Neots, Cambs. PE19 1TH .Tel.01480 473225. He reconditioned my Scott distributer 2 years ago which was suffering from a worn shaft and bushes and made an excellent job at a very reasonable price. He is not on the internet and is an old fashioned businessman, he sent the distributer back and then the invoice. Ted.

My advice for what it’s worth, as Brian suggests, don’t rush in, be patient and eventually the right bike will come along at the right price. Good luck in your search.

A suppressor is normally about 20K ohms and will make very little difference to the HT voltage, in fact it will reduce it slightly. When I was serving my apprenticeship at the BTH in Ford Street in Coventry in the early fifties they did tests with suppressors on the magneto’s and actually found that it improved the spark, it cut out spiking and gave a cleaner spark. In those days you could be prosecuted for causing interference to the television signal. I run my Scott on Champion L86 and have no problems, they last for ever, if you do need to replace them you can buy them from the Green sparkplug gentleman for about £1.50.

Seems strange why is it fitted with a rear stand and no visible means to pull it onto it. It should have a roll on centre stand.

I use old fashion green hermetite on mine that does the trick, but where you get it from now I don’t know. Being retired has its drawbacks.

I get this problem on my 1949 Scott, I get over it by adjusting the throttle stop so the engine shuts of when the throttle is closed.Have you got yours adjusted to tick over?

Do you think it is wise making comments like this on the internet for all to see, or very smart. These people have been in the business a long time and can tell if a machine is well maintained. They know these bikes are well loved and quite valuable and only an idiot would ride them in an unroadworthy condition. I thought my MOT. man was a bit easy going but when I took my Bantam a few years ago he was chatting while walking around the bike visually checking it, suddenly he disappeared out the back and came back with a socket spanner and said the bolts are loose on the back sprocket tighten them up and when you get home put some lock tight on them. Even though I had given the bike what I thought was a good check before I went, I had missed this but he did’nt.
A short time later I took my Matchless and half way through the test an inspector from VOSA turned up unannounced, my MOT man said to him you are supposed to give 24hrs. notice before you come, the reply was, I will go away if you like but you won’t like it if I do.
The test was carried out with the inspector watching and also rechecking some of the items and it passed. I was told if he had missed anything on the test the inspector would have awarded points against him, if it was a serious fault he would have had his licence withdrawn. Two motorcycle MOT. stations in Coventry had allready been closed down and lost their livelihood.

Hi, If you don’t want to get a new cover why not adjust the throttle stop so the engine stops when you shut the throttle?
