It ran more or less according to plan, and appeared to be a success. Sadly, working in the “back office”, I missed most of it! My grateful thanks to those who helped.

phew…. just sent revision 24 of “The Gathering” programme to the printer, so no chance of an advance copy, Carl. It’s amazing how time consuming it is to compile a simple 12 page document, and certainly makes me appreciate the work that Eddie the Ed puts into our bi-monthly issues of Yowl. We’re working on the opening ceremony now.. AAS forging piston rings.. purple dresses for the ladies.. etc etc….. !!

Last year awards were made, but many of the trophies were retained for restoration. I understand that this work is now complete, and we have a full compliment this year. If you are lucky enough to be holding a 2011 trophy, please remember to return it.

Looking forward to seeing you over the weekend.

I understand there is a company in Ipswich, Suffolk, UK… Speedway Services Ltd, tel 01553 829 197 who can help.
There is also a posting in “Sources of Supply” on another company dealing with Pilgrim pumps.

    Hope this helps.

I am holding (for about 2 years) some Windle sidecar race forks for Pavel, do you have any spare room?

I am sure Brian’s son will have heard of BB’s. They are now called Brown Brothers Distribution Ltd, and have depots all over the country, HQ in Solihull. They specalize in body shop supplies, but I’ll bet they can’t do Scott purple.

I think it would be worth speaking to Graham Moag of the Scott Club spares scheme on both counts. As he makes the radiators he would have a good idea on the options on radiator hose, and of course the spares scheme does keep it in stock, but probably only in straight lenths. Good luck in Halfords, for a laugh, try asking them for leather bike pump washers!

Some time ago a member very kindly gave me a better radiator for my 2speeder. I spent ages fitting it, and then found I couldn’t get ANY reach spark plugs in or out! I could only conclude that it was a very early rad suitable for engines with spark plugs in the back of the cylinder block as opposed to the top. From your experience there appears to be a selection of rad sizes. For the record my rad is 11 1/2 inches top to bottom (ignoring the filler) and the clearance from the rim of the plug hole to the underside of the rad is 2 5/8 inches. I use NGK A7 short reach plugs. I am sure Graham could enlighten us.

Did you receive the Scott 2speed gear info? I wondered if you could open the .doc files?

I looked at a Scott 2speed unit today and agreed with the owner that the clearance between the expanding ring and the gear drum is minimal, probably 5 – 10 thou. Don’t hold us to it, stripping it down is the only way to get an accurate measurement.

Did you know that the BAT of 1910 and 1911 was offered with the P&M 2speed gear? Also, there are usually a few P&M’s in the Pioneer Run, the Sunbeam Club might put you in touch with their owners.

Dave Fisher is a Scott Club member and a star magneto man, he has an advert. on the back page of Yowl. Not too far from you, it’s well worth a call.

No response here, so welcome to the wonderful world of Scotts!

I am not sure that the P&M and Scott 2speed gear arrangements are that closely related. I understand the P&M uses side-by-side twin primary chains driven from a double engine sprocket, these drive a countershaft containing the selection device. The same principle as the Scott, but more akin to the early Royal Enfield 2speeder.

I can scan and send illustrations of the Scott and RE arrangements if they are of interest.

    Good luck.

There are usually about 15 members in attendance. You will be very welcome. The venue is not too easy to find the first time, use sat. nav. if you have it, or print off a route finder. If you need any help, please contact me. We look forward to meeting you.
